Chimney Sweep North Devon....

We are Geoff and June Woodley based in Barnstaple North Devon.

We have been chimney sweeps for several years now and have built up a really good client base with a lot of our work latterly being recommendations. By far the best way to increase any business.

We sweep over the whole of the North Devon area - please see our sister website for all the areas covered.

Geoff is a Hetas trained chimney sweep and we are fully Insured (on a separate policy not our home insurance like some we know!)

He is a member of APICS.

A certificate of sweeping is issued on completion and we allow at least an hour for a chimney which we have not swept before. You never know what you may encounter up it!!

Please note that, despite what other 'professionals' may say, you cannot sweep a chimney properly without using rods and brushes. A hoover alone is like putting the nozzle of your domestic hoover through your letterbox and expecting your house to be free of dust!
Fossil fuels (Wood,coal,gas,oil) create ash etc which can stick to and block up the chimneys.
Wood in particular creates tarry creosote which, although it looks pretty - all black and shiny when it is hard- is impossible to get off the sides without a brush. Even then sometimes we cannot remove all of it, so we recommend using ...

a chimney cleaning log  (find chimney cleaning log CCL in the side panel on the site)

once or twice a season. They are excellent for reducing hard creosote to flakes so that when the chimney is swept, we chimney sweeps can sweep back to the liner or chimney thereby reducing any likelihood of a chimney fire.
The chemical in the logs interacts with the creosote stuck to the sides of the chimney and flake it.
I must add THEY DO NOT REPLACE HAVING A CHIMNEY SWEPT. They are to be used in conjunction with a professional chimney sweep.
